Hi there,
Anyone wanting a good music notation program, need look no further - try this
http://www.computeractive.co.uk/computeractive/downloads/2226650/musescore-notation-software

MuseScore runs on Windows XP, Vista & Windows 7, is Freeware and is easy to use. Don't be misled by the music it shows on startup - you can do simple lead sheets too - melody, chord symbols & lyrics are so easy to enter.

I used Finale's "Print Music" until my computer went down and a new key code needed feeding in - Finale refused to answer my emails, let alone provide me with a new key code. I was stuck with a good notation program which refused to save or print my work. How much longer must we pay for software when the company still thinks it belongs to them after we have paid for it (Yes, just like Windows itself).
Support freeware like this and lets take the big companies down a peg or two.
Hope some of you find it useful.
Tony

If there's some must have thing in Finale for a chart you need to prepare, you can always do a selection screen save, save as a JPG... They still print.

Didn't know about that page Nigel - so I could have had some software ages ago if I'd known.
Will teach me to look around properly instead of just visiting 2 or 3 sections as I usually do.

I convinced the companies I assist to switch to opensource programs where possible and its saved them a small fortune in licenses. Some of the staff now have clean consciences as they are not running illegal programs too.

Most now use Openoffice and some of the staff didin't even notice

Clamwin is a good antivirus program, and AVG (personal use)

I find it annoying that the school system in the UK just expects the kids to have Microsoft Office and Sibelius at home. Most of the parents are forced into downloading illegal versions because they can't afford the licenses.

Schools should all be on opensource.

Second you post TWD.

Btw, anyone familiar to this site? http://www.nonags.com/

Some goodies to find, even if some are shareware.

"125MB hard disk space required for software download and installation"

That's an awful lot of real estate for a program. Also, it's a new program (notice the Version #). If the kinks are not ironed out, which they tend to be in later versions, you're liable to end up with a discombobulated Registry.

It might be a wonderful program that works from the word "go," but I tend to wait for somewhere around Version 5 or 6 before I download something. Often that's a software developer's way of testing his product.....giving it out for nothing.

Thanks for sharing your find.

Another program that I have used is iRotate.

If you are able to rotate your monitor this program will let you view the page in the rotated view for displaying the full score page. It is not bloated at 111kb.
