Haha, I wrote a song that includes the word "hell." Some of these little old ladies around here like the song but won't say "Hell." So, at my concert next weekend, at which I will be playing acoustic guitar, I was thinking of having a recruit BLEEP in another mic when I sing the word "hell." They could vocally do it and that could work if they have a good BLEEP but, if their BLEEP sucks...

What kind of electronic alternatives do I have? Anyone got a BLEEP.wav? I wonder how I could do that and him push the button on something so that it would be instantaneous output? Timing has to be close to spot on.

Are you taking the Audya? You could program the sound in one of the Key Tunes. Then just press the key when you need it.
In effect it would be a very short MP3 file and will play instantly. You could even record your own voice.

Thing about the bleep is that it doesn't just go on top of what you are saying, it replaces the entire track. You'd have to have it duck the mike and maybe the arranger at the same time. And yes, timing would be critical.

Me, I think it would be funnier if you just popped out a falsetto 'beep' in your own voice!

But it is really just a synth sine wave. You could find a similar sound patch on almost any keyboard and play it holding the key down as long as you need it. Just bring up the Synth bank on whatever keyboard you are using and you should be able to find a sound that is very close. There really is no need to have to trigger a sample of such a basic sound.

Of course simply stop singing while you hold the key down. I really don't think it matters if the music keeps playing as long as the vocal drops out while it is held.
That would provide the effect you are looking for.

Yep good suggestion. That would be great for triggering this sort of sound effect ... presuming the arranger Bill is using has multipads. Though isn't multipad a preset one shot affair that wouldn't allow sustain control for varying phrase/word lengths? but if it is always just short words a predefined length might just work fine anyway.

I agree. That would be funnier. If you put a bleep in that drowns out everything else you risk making everyone jump unless they are watching you intently.

I don't know about whatever arranger he is using, but in most Roland's, as part of the SFX drumkit, there is a 'beep' from an old analog machine that works great...

His might have an equivalent, and I suppose that, if it is on a multipad, you'd need to use a drum kit to stop the arranger from transposing it depending on the chord...
