OK, here’s the deal: I’m not really a singer but lately I’ve been singing at some of my gigs and the response has been better than I would normally get from playing all instrumentals. Weird…

So I’ve been thinking of ways to improve my voice. I’m doing some voice exercises and I’m looking into getting a good teacher at some point.

I’ve been thinking that a voical harmonizer might bring my vocals up a notch. I’d like something for live playing- ease of use and a small foot print are important. I’d like to add vocal harmonies to styles, midi files and live playing on my keyboard. I’d like a vocal harmonizer that trumps the vocal harmonizer on my Tyros 2. I could spend up to $1000 but it sure would be nice to spend less- I already owe too much!

Any thoughts/recommendations?

I've been using the TC Helicon Harmony-M for about year now and quite happy with the results.

First things first, though. Check out some of the local community colleges and you'll most likely find great vocal programs and a down-to-earth price. Using a vocal harmonizer requires that you have the ability to master good vocal control.

Also, you'll find that vocal processor in the Tyros2 is pretty darned good if you set it up properly. There's an excellent tutorial on this at www.psrtutorial.com under the articles tab on the home page.

I'm currently working with a VoiceTone Harmony-M from TC-Helicon, also happy with it but thinking now going for the VoiceLive2.

A vocal harmonizer is only as accurate as its' input...

If you are looking to 'tweak' your primary vocal rather than put fake sounding harmonies around what you ARE singing, possible an Antares AutoTune AVP-1 rack unit might be the ticket?

Pretty much industry standard pitch correction, you hear it (or often don't!) on just about every CD out these days...

I have the VoiceLive2.
It's an awesome machine. Miles ahead of the harmonizer in the T2. Worth every penny.
I highly recommend it.

I have always used the Helicon harmonisers, from the PA1 and PA2x, but just recently I had the chance to try the new Digitech VL3D.

I have got to say the VL3D, was nowhere near as clean and authentic sounding as the Harmony M Pedal.

The ONE thing I liked was the easy access to controls like a compressor, and other ambience controls fro just the original vocal. But the harmony voices were very average in my view.

I think if you stick with any of the TC Helicon products you will not be disappointed.

I,ve got the Voice Live 2 as well, and its the last thing I would be trading, its fabulous well done TC Hellicon

I've sold a ton of the Voicelive 2, and they are worlds above the Yamaha vocalizer. Probably the best VH to date.
