I have been trying to get my xp-80 to play different sounds on different midi channels from a different sequencer(i.e.Trinity, Triton, ASR-10) but I cannot figure this out at all. I believe that I need detailed instructions from someone that really knows. I've gone through the manual as well as all over the the web. None of the suggestions that I've found seem to work. I have no problem doing this with any other equipment in my setup so my connnections don't seem to be the fault. I can play on one midi channel of the xp-80 from another source. Please, again, Any help will help. Thanks all.

This may be an obvious question, but are you sure you are in Performance mode rather than Patch mode? And are you sure all the reception (Rx) channels in Performance mode are turned on?

If you *are* in Performance mode, and if all the receive channels *are* on, and it still doesn't work, then maybe you could describe your setup a bit more closely, e.g., what keyboards are transmitting on what channels to the XP80 and which performance parts you're trying to address and which channels they are set to.

Thanks for the fast response. Now,I am in Performance mode and all of the receive channels are on. My setup is a Korg TrinityProX midi connected back and forth to the Roland XP-80 via a MOTU timepieceAV. but to stream the setup I'm going to go directly from the Trinity to and from the XP-80. I'm using the sequencer of the Trinity and simply trying to get two XP-80 sounds to work on different channels at the same time.
If you will, mabey you can walk me, button push by button push, through this. Please. Thanks for the help now and in the future.

(1) "to stream the setup I'm going to go directly from the Trinity to and from the XP-80"

I assume you mean "streamline" the setup; "streaming" something is a completely different ballgame in audio, and I have no clue regarding the MOTU timepiece.

But: For now, don't go "from" the XP80 back to the Trinity. Just go MIDI out from the Trinity to MIDI in to the XP80, otherwise, depending how the Trinity is set up with MIDI in/out/thru, you could get MIDI echo or MIDI slop or even worse.

(2) There's a small paragraph in the back of your XP80 manual about "Playing the XP-80 sound source from an external MIDI device"; you'll find it under "Using external MIDI devices". Make sure you've done everything in that paragraph, step by step, especially turning the part switches on.

(3) Start out by playing back just *one* channel of your sequence from the Trinity at a time to try to isolate the problem. E.g., play back *only* channel one and see if it plays on the XP80, then *only* channel 2, etc.

I can't stress enough how important it is to make sure, as the manual suggests, that the receive channel(s) in the XP80's performance *parts* (different from tracks) match the Trinity's *send* channels, and that the Rx (receive) switches are ON for the performance parts you want to address.

Try that and get back to us.

Sorry for getting back late. The Synth Zone site has been all hosed for the past few days. Anyone know what happened?

You've been very helpful but I think that I have figured it out. In system/midi/remote keyboard switch needs to be off. I would have never figured...well almost never.
Thanks again for the help. Now it's time for me to roll up my sleeves and get in.
