Hello,

I was wondering if I could ask for some advice regarding drum sequencing. I have been using computer sequencers for a few years now in conjunction with my Roland SC-7 tone generator. Drum sequencing is done using a computer mouse to input notes onto a graphic representation of various rhythm sets - a simple but tedious process. I am considering upgrading my sc-7 to a jv2080. Could anyone out there kindly provide some insight into the best way to drum sequence with the jv2080? Thankyou very much in advance.
BTW, my setup consists of a Mac, a share ware sequencer ("Ballade"), a Kawai K1 synth, and a Roland SC-7 (to be replaced by a jv2080 hopefully).

In general (as in General MIDI), nothing should change. MIDI data is MIDI data, so the JV-2080 will accept your drum parts the same as your old system did - as long as you stick with the default GM patch, which is supposed to be universal.

However, any time you change sound modules, you'll want to utilize its advantages. The other available drum patches probably won't have the same drum sound/note associations, so you'll have two choices - re-write the drum parts to reflect the change, or construct a new drum set on the JV-2080 with the sounds you want associated with the notes your software uses for each drum sound. Recently I did the former, and it's a pain - I think I'll probably do the latter when I obtain a new drum module next month.

Hope this is helpful . . .
