I have just recently bought a JV 1010 and am using a really old casio ekeboard for the master controller. The casio does its job fine, but I'm looking for a better upgradable master controller to run my synth module. I'm looking for something around the $300-$400 dollar range (for as a starving student...you can only go so long without food.) , preferably something with aftertouch. I've looked into the Roland A-30. Would this be a good idea to purchase, or does anyone else have a better idea for another master controller??? Any help would be much appreciated. Or maybe a Xp-10???? IIf I am gonna use a software sequencer, EX: cubase or cakewalk, then on my keyboard would I have to get one with 16 channels already build into the keyboard. Or is that just its own onboard sequencer???Again, any help would be much apprecited.

Hi melloror,

I'd recommend looking at a used Roland A-70, which can be had for $400-600. 76 semi-weighted organ-type keys, with almost all the controller features of the A-90 (it's big brother). Lighter, more portable than the A-90 (I have both an A-70 and A-90Ex).

You can easily expand it later by getting a used VE-RD1 piano board, which I think rivals even the new SRX piano card (and I have both).

Musician's Friend has these on clearance/blem for $500.

Regards,
Chris
