Alright, this might be a newbie question. I did a search on this topic but didn't come up with anything. I was using a roland mv30 for sequencing before I purchased an xp50. I thought this was a great upgrade and it still might be except for one small thing. The sequencer bites my ass. If anyone can help me on the most efficient way to get a good sequence from the board, that would be great. With the mv30, on the front of the piece, there are eight sliders that correspond to 8/16 different tracks you can assign instruments to. you set that up and you just record and go. done deal. what the hell is up with this new setup on the xp50. it seems to only allow you to record parts if you have first set up the instruments in an arrangement. this kills my creative juice, because I go through the options in the patch mode first. when i locate an instrument that inspires a riff or chord progression or something to the like, I wanna put it in the sequence right there and then. it seems like you are forced to select all the instruments you wanna use before you even start to sequence which is bull. I'll probably never use any of the preset performances either. If anyone can help please do. I've had this fantastic board for a couple of months now and because of this "achilles heel", I have not gotten one useable note sequenced out of it and its frustrating. I love roland gear, and I know this board would be butter if I just got over this hump. Sorry for the long damn post. Please post or email, with tips. Thanks in advance. =)

Why don't you go through the selecctions in performance instad of patch mode? Select part 1, and start looking through patches until you decide what you want on track one, then select part 2, and thus and soforth. This will give you a more accurate representation of what your sequence will sound like anyway, because you won't have all the effects changing on you as well as you will in patch mode. You can't record each patch exactly as it sounds on every track of a sequence because you'll use up your effects. Better to make your selections from a performance and then figure out what effects are necessary.

Thanks for the help kind person.

I've actually developed a bit more patience thanks to divine intervention this week. I'm starting to get more into the board by deciphering the hieroglyphics they printed the manual with. =)
Anyways, I'm sure there will be many more questions, I'm just glad there are some folks out there to bounce ideas off of. Board seems a lil quiet though compared to a few of the automotive enthusiast boards I subscribe to. Maybe it'll change real soon.

It goes in spirts around here. If you want a busy site you'll find that at Harmonycentral.com, but they just talk and talk and say little. Certain people are really helpful, but I seldom go there anymore. Anyway, welcome to synthzone. Lots of good stuff here.
