I’m trying to decide on which vocal harmonizer to get: the TC Helicon Harmony M or the Voice Live 2.

Can the Harmony M be activated with a foot pedal like the Voice Pro Live?

Where do you place a Harmony M if you don’t have any space on top of your keyboard?

Does the Harmony M have pitch correction like the Voice Live?

For live performance is pitch correction useful in getting a better natural voice sound? I’m not interested in those “hard auto tune” effects that is used in lots of popular music now days. I just want the best sounding vocals and harmonies I can get.

This would be used mostly live performance and maybe some demo recordings.

Any thoughts which unit would serve me the best?

Thanks!

Yes.

You could place it on the floor and use the built-in foot-switches on the device.

No.

This depends upon how well you can sing on key. If you can carry a tune reasonably well, it's not a problem.

Probably best for live performances, but it works well in a studio setting too.

Thanks!

Good Luck,

Gary

If you are interested at all I do have a Voice Live(prodessor of the 2) that I would be willing to sell for $200.00 plus shipping. It is in good condition and never gigged with.

Let me know - Mistered41111@gmail.com

Not ready to sell, but you can borrow my Harmony M for a while to try.

I've only been attempting to do vocals the last couple of years. I thought the Harmony Voice Live2 would help me. WRONG! My wife said you better not go out gigging with that unit, you sound awful. Yea, total honesty, better hearing it from her, than from the audience. I do have the Harmony M, I use it on a limited basis, works for me and no one's asked me to pack my gear up and leave the gig.

Thanks Gary, Mistered and Don.

Stephenm52- isn't great to have your own personal critic My wife is the same way. I'm a bit "green" as a vocalist too. Tell me, what about the Voice Live made you sound worse?

Both of the models are great tools! However, a harmonizer will make a good singer sound better, while a bad singer will sound worse!

I would rather spend the money on a few vocal lessons!

Muntunoman, I believe hitman nailed it with his comments.

I'm playing to a senior audience, my song selections are better suited with out too many effects. The Voice Live 2 made my voice sound too synthesized and un-natural. I really wanted the Voice live 2 to work for me. In the hands of the right vocalist it does a nice job.

Yes hitman- you certainly did nail it.

I bought a TC Harmony M today. All my illusions of a good harmonizer making me sound like a better singer are gone. If you are the least bit off, all your flaws are magnified big time.

I guess I need to play around more with the settings but more than anything I need to really get serious about getting my vocals together.

If you are looking for pitch correction rather than harmony generation, take a look at Antares' AVP-1 rack unit. Same Auto-Tune technology used on most singers (including the greats) these days...

Use it reasonably subtly, and only on the out front sound (it'll mess with your mind if you use it on your monitors!), and it can help poor intonation quite a lot. It can't help poor tone or vibrato, but it can certainly help your pitch..!

If you have a marginal voice, the vocal processor will not make it better. I highly recommend going to one of the local community colleges and looking into voice lessons. Many colleges offer them and the courses are relatively inexpensive, mainly night courses. I've always been fortunate in having the ability to sing on key, but prior to taking vocal lessons I knew little or nothing about breath control, diction techniques, and lots of other neat things that I eventually learned during the six-week course. The course can make a good singer a great singer. And, I'm sure it can make a marginal singer a good singer.

Good Luck,

Gary

Voice lessons will always be a great idea, it should be first on your list. If you love to sing but have doubts about the quality of your voice or your voice is not fitted for the venue you are playing then the voice harmonizer is a great tool to add (to cover up)
No machine can improve a voice but it can add a bunch of weird sounding guys and girls to help you along.

My example: I have a Sinatra type of voice. Please don’t miss-read, I did not say a voice like Sinatra. Have you ever heard him sing any of the good 50’s music? In my case I got the job done by using a harmonizer for some 50’s 60’s and disco. I am even worst with country music. I don’t think anything can help that. (smile)

Yes, voice lessons are on my list. I've been practicing with a vocal warm up CD and try to sing everything I play. Sometimes I do crazy stuff like just play one hand of a Bach invention and sing the other hand.

My pitch is pretty good. I studied ear training/sight singing in college using solfeo. My tone isn't good at all... I have what I consider a functional voice. I can sing a part and the pitches are good but no style/tone/vibrato....

I got the Harmony M to help "color" my voice a bit for solo gigs and help on background vocals in a dou (with a real singer) Hopefully it well serve that purpose well.
