I'm trying to digitally record a sound from my XP-50 in SoundForge XP to go w/ some spoken word material. However, comparing the silences in between the spoken word, and the sound from the XP-50, there's a HUGE amount of noise (ca. -48 dB at U gain), and when I try to eliminate it in the recording wiht a noise gate, it cuts off the sound as it fades out (e.g. PR-C 109).

Do XP-50's just make that much background noise, or is there a way to do things diferently?

Thanks! John

I forgot to mention I hear this static-y noise over my headphones and through my speakers as well. I thought this was just poor speakers, but could it be the whole synth emiting this noise?

I sympathize with you man. I had the same problem when I recorded stuff from my XP50 to my VS840. I also had the same problem when I ran my XP50 through an amp.

The problem seems to be the XP50's circutry. I say that because when i got my XP60 yesterday, my problem was solved. What you can do is spend $80 on a Hum Canceler/Signal Magnifier. These boxes reduce hum and noise and amplify low signals to the max which is helpful because the background noise creeps up when the XP50's volume is raised too high.
