What the heck does the analog feel (analog feel depth) in the common menu for patch display of the XP-60 actually control? The manual says it "adjusts the depth at which 1/f modulation is applied to the patch, but that doesn't exactly tell me what it does. I played with it a little and, um, it just seems to make a wierd warble, so, you more experienced XP guys can help me out here.

The analog feel adds a sort of random variation in pitch, caomparable to that found in many analog synths. It is a really nice effect if used carefully. At low values it sounds nice, but at high values it just sounds out of pitch..

All you have to do is try it out a little, and you'll get the idea..

Stiggie! Hey man, thanks for your reply! Oooo, analog synths, eh? That would be why it sounds really goofy with the acoustic patches then. So it's more useful for the pads then?

It sounds great on horns as well. No horn player has a totally solid 100% accurate embouchure, so a little of that applied to an oboe or clarinet sounds like a real player. Use subtle amounts though, just so you can perceive a little pitch movement during a sustained note.

It actually sounds good on many sounds and types of sounds. The point is not to set to high value. If you use it carefully, it gives nice results. It makes the sounds sound more "alive"..

Wow, thanks guys. I'm working my way through chapter 3 "creating your own sounds" in the manual. I came across that function and couldn't really tell what it controlled. So it's just some kind of mild pitch-change-over-time variant, I guess. Thanks again! That helped.

analog feel is supposed to recreate the variation in voltage that was present in early voltage contolled oscillator synthesizers, a kind of "warble" . It's another way of adding some kind of warmth to certain sounds that may lack something, I guess the best thing to do is experiment with it, though I ususally just set it kind of low and leave it there. It's not very usefull anyways....

There are sooooooooo many sound editing features on the XP-60 that I don't know if I can keep track of them all. Good lord, and all the different ways to rout the effects....
