I want to get styles on my PSR-S710 to trigger soft synth drums I have in Cubase 5. I have been unsucessful assigning midi channels to accomplish this, and the manual doesn't say much about if anything about this.

That's odd you aren't able to trigger the soft drums on MIDI channel 10. Are you sure the soft synth is receiving the MIDI data?

It does trigger notes on Midi channel 10, but none of the kits on Cubase 5's Groove Agent (GM as well) trigger the correct drum kit notes as played by the PSR-S710. I find this strange since both products are Yamaha. Do I have to create a specific drum map to be compatible?

Very few keyboards use GM Drum kits except on Midi files, also Yamaha had their own format mapping (XG) which was slightly different to GM.

You will need to change the notes played on the PSR or alter the drum mapping in Cubase to get them to match.

Cubase first came out in the Mid 80s, when it became pretty much an industry standard. A few years ago Yamaha bought Steinberg to add to their portfolio, but they still develop products independently of Yamaha, (This is why you have a separate Yamaha section) so as to continue to support the Pro market.
