That is the one thing I don't get. Little 30 inch scale basses never sounded very good to me. I have a Hofner (two, actually), as well as a 30' scale Guild hollow bass and the pretty good Epiphone Jack Cassidy bass-the best sounding "shorty" of them all, in my opinion.

Oh well, can't knock the product Paul created with the Hofner.

I'd say Paul has done VERY well with that Hofner bass..it's his signature choice and probably enjoys playing it immensely....can't knock over whelming success that will NEER be duplicated.

You're right, Donny, Paul has done well with it. I just think that particular bass sounds awful and I think it sounds just as bad when Paul plays it. Bass was never the strong part of Beatles music. That tone wouldn't fly today, for sure. i call it the "short scale runs".

At least, that's my opinion. Love Paul, The Beatles and lots of their music. Just don't like that bass or the sound that comes out of it, historic or not.

I'll bet it's very sentimental to him as he has been using it 50 years or so, sure sounded good on "Daytripper"..maybe it sounds better playing it lefty?...
