If you're into small and light weight speakers, like me, check out the new Electro-Voice ZXA1 powered speakers. They weigh about 19 lbs each with 800 watts of power. I've packed up the Bose to enjoy the EV's for a while.

I own 2 pairs of the passive model, ZX190A, the newer re-named model is identical except for the model number, now is ZX100A.
I have been using this speakers for almost 4 years with EXCELLENT results, in fact, my competitors in the Phoenix area, saw them, heard them and went and purchase them.

Now am curious with EVs active/self-powered model. I am sure is Awesome.
I highly recommend this speakers in their passive model and I am sure that the powered model is also great. I play in average 14 times or more at month, and this speakers do not let you down.
For small to medium venues I use only one pair, for the large jobs, I use my 2 pairs, 2 on the floor, and 2 in stands.
Works Great.กกก

I had a friend check them out and he also open them up to see how their construction was. His opinion is that is one of the finest high quality materials and design he has seen. Made in the USA.

Those (active) speakers caught my eye also in the store. I've used nothing but EV (passive) speakers for the last 15 year or so. Every so often I even get complimented on the sound quality by someone in the audience.

I listened with my own keyboard to the Yamaha Pas system....thought it was a bit muddy, but in all fairness my ears are used to an EV sound.

I've been thinking about purchasing those ZXA1's. Anyone else have any comments on them? Or thoughts about using powered speakers? Any downside to powered speakers?

....a good cross-section of comments...particulary the ones by WirelessDJ. I'm anxious to hear these now. These must be brand new. I heard the older model last year and I thought it sounded great (in the store, at least). I'm also curious about the bass on these units. The one true thing about Mackie's vs EV is that Mackie has a monopoly on bass. I remember one job where another DJ was in the next room, and the walls were vibrating in mine. I went in to see what it was....sure enough, it was a single Mackie 450, and on a pole, no less! I have to run 4 S-300 EV cabinets together to get that kind of bass, and even then it's more of a "clean" bass. Mackie is rough and gritty.....great for dancing!
