Hello and thanks to anyone who reads this or helps me.

I am trying to get my computer to control my Roland XP-30. Eventually I
want to get it to play all the better sounding banks. But right now I would
be content to have it play a GM file.

When I try to get it to play. It seems like it just plays random notes, all
sounding like the piano. If I create my own midi file (using cakewalk 8) w/
just one channel and make it just play a scale, the keyboard won't start
sounding until a few seconds into the scale (if at all) and it doesn't even
sound the right instrument. It sounds more like a gong that just holds and
random ticks or taps.

any suggestions?
Thanks

Couple of things (apologies if you have already thought of them) make sure your in GM mode, or the problem could be your midi drivers…it sounds like some sort of buffer problem I know a lot of people have had this sort of thing with the Korg X series and the Yamaha SW1000XG. If you can test any other external midi device and that’s OK you may have a faulty unit… … if non of this helps post again and I’ll think some more.
