Well, I consider myself unbiased since I never even owned a Yamaha instrument, nor was I tempted to get à Tyros before. I must admit I am very interested this time and will certainly try it out myself once I get the chance.

This is definitely significant. I find these demos extremely impressive. Those brush drums sound hyper-realistic to me. The grand piano, the vibraphone, the vocal demos, they're first rate.

This is a major improvement over the Tyros 3. I think this is more like Tyros 4.5. It looks like Yamaha went way beyond a perfunctory upgrade.

You get 50 new styles, hundreds of new voices including several dozen new drum kits and a killer grand piano, and a new vocalizer + many more goodies.

I feel for you guys who need 76 keys. It must be very frustrating that this keyboard doesn't have them.

It's going to be a painful year or two, waiting for the successor to my PSR-S910 to come out and hoping that as many of these improvements as possible make it onto my next keyboard.

Make sure you play all the videos on "720" quality setting, (selectable between 360 480 and 720 on the lower right corner of the youtube window that pops up) or else you will get significantly lower quality audio.

Another thing, I did listen to 4-5 style samples and 2 of them were rip offs of actual songs (the "60's rock rising" or something is a copy of the House of the rising sun and the "Synth Pop Duo" sounds as close as possible to the group "Modern Talking" which were coincidentally a (German) synth pop duo with a disctinctive sound in the mid late 80's

the synth pop duo style http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ian3iGBeiqw&feature=player_embedded#!

modern talking http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kHl4FoK1Ys&ob=av2n

How many styles are like that?

update: I had my wife listen to the style through headphones without knowing what it was and I asked what she thought it was. The reply: "Sounds like Modern Talking"

Well, that leaves out Roland fanboys like you and Frannie. I'm sure you guys must have Roland tatoos on your bums...lets see, a big "R" on one cheek, and "land" on the other, so when you bend over it's [b]R o land
.

That's also why we Yamaha users and supporters (far more accurate terms than "fanboys") don't put much credence in your opinions.

They do bring a smile when I read them so they aren't entirely worthless.

Those demos sound awesome on 720.

Looks like I may be asking Santa for a Tyros4 for Christmas.

Sorry, Ian, but you KNOW how critical of Roland I am. If you were even a TINY fraction that willing to proffer a criticism of Yamaha, you wouldn't deserve the 'fanboy' label. Sadly, there's absolutely NOTHING that Yamaha do (or don't do) that you aren't 100% supportive of, even to the point of berating and belittling others on this forum for wanting Yamaha to provide something that, if they DID, you would only be too happy to once again gush over. That, IMO, is the purest definition of 'fanboy' I can think of.

Come on, Diki...stop hijacking this thread...please.

I promised Santa I'd be good so I can get a Tyros4 for Christmas.

I've even asked him to send you a book by M. Harris called,

The Joys of Sixty-One

Don't worry...it's non-fiction.

Stop calling people names and they won't call you names....simple, eh? Simple kindergarten logic, we both can understand.

Diki, my friend, did you ever try living in the present? One leg is always in the past, the other stuck in tomorrow, and you pee all over today.

You can't seem to enjoy anything that's happening right now...it's always got to be "shoulda, coulda, woulda", and "Why didn't they?" "Why isn't it?" If only they had...""If only it wasn't..." etc.

You miss the enjoyment of the present and what is being accomplished right now.

I'm glad I don't have to be that busy...or messy.

Santa's gonna end up giving you a big lump of reindeer poop if you don't stop being naughty.

Ian

PS...I'm sending my letter to Santa tonight, so be on your best behavior, or it's poo for you....

Don't need Santa's address. Still happy with what I've got.

Iana
Why are you doing that to Diki? Just because he has a better thaught process than you and is able to see beyond Yamaha's overmarketing does not mean you have to treat him like that. I just wish Iana and Diki can have a good discussion and not call each other names.
