I've just tried to install a Toshiba MK2109MAT in my Ketron X1 without success.
The HDD isn't recognized.
Does anybody have a list of testet Harddisks?

I cannot actually help you on your problem, but I write because I am intersted if you have solved your problem by now.

I myself was thinking of installing a non-Solton HD into my X1 but I wonder if that is actually possible.

Maybe you can post if you could do it.
