Now that the weather has turned cooler...

What is the general concesus about leaving gear out in the cold van or starting up a KB or amp when its chilly.

Can store in a garage if it hits freezing but always wait till room temp...right?

I NEVER keep my gear in the car/truck ESPECIALLY in cold weather ... and when traveling to a gig in cold weather, the first piece of gear into the room is the kb ... it gets unpacked and doesn't get turned on until it gets to room temp ... next are the powered speakers ...

Hi Tom , I suspect you're suffering seasonal temp swing culture shock , especially after having lived in the Bay Area and Hawaii so long. - Scott

I never leave my gear in the car, especially during cold weather, which is most of the year here in Cape Breton...it's only 4 degrees above freezing here today.

I'm lucky, as my gear travels in my Honda Accord, and the back seat is folded forward, allowing heat to get into the trunk...the keyboard is in the car.

Always give your arranger time to acclimatize itself to the room...condensation can form, giving problems.

Agreed. Out here in Alberta where it can be a bit chilly at times, I load the gear on to the van (almost said 'sled' ) at the last possible minute and the heater gets cranked up to 11. The keyboard is the first out at the gig and always 'aired out' before switching on.

Here in Florida, chilly to me is in the high 60's. Cold is 50's. When it hits 40 or below, we call FEMA.

But, even here, I try to keep my Yammie as close to room temps all the time, which means I don't leave it in a vehicle between jobs.

Gary just mentioned to me that cooler weather will affect the screen on his 3K. We both remembered when our old 740s would not even play until they warmed up in cooler weather. That, has not been the case with the later models however.

Your TY is tough, but I would not recommend leaving it in your vehicle during any extreme temps, hot or cold.
