Hello All,

I am a new Roland E80 user and I am having problems with the style composer. How can I create a new style using two drum kits for eg. say a style using Standard + Ethnic drum kits. Please help!

You can't...

ONE drum track ONLY in Style Mode. Lord knows WHEN Roland will change this antediluvian restriction...

But you CAN use several different kits in Song (or SMF) mode, so if you HAVE to have something this way, make a Recording of the style (use the Recorder) using the Standard kit, and then overdub the Ethnic stuff in the 16 Track Sequencer...

Oops!

You CAN mix kits in Style Mode, but only one at a time. E.g., one variation can use Standard, another one Ethnic. Or, alternatively, if you need just ONE hit from the ethnic kit while all other hits are silent (especially useful during a fill), you can embed a PC# in the middle of the variation or fill, then immediately next embed the PC# for the original kit (the arranger will switch VERY fast)...

It's not perfect, but can sometimes work...

Not sure if you can do this on the Roland or not, but you could try putting the ethnic drum sounds on the notes that are not used in the standard style, and then edit this style to use the new notes (Drums) as well. (Or if it’s just certain sounds you want, you could make up a new drum kit out of the Standard and Ethnic kit)
Hope this helps

Bill

No, you can't do that, Abacus...

No 'custom' kits for Roland, just the ROM ones.
