I know you must get tired of answering this... it there such a thing as a book written for true beginners regarding the SD1? To say that I'm befuddled by the manual is a severe understatement.. it could still be in Italian and I would get as much from it! :eek
As always, I appreciate any help from the members here.

There is the Quick Guide Hints and Tips that I wrote for this unit and it has been well received, with step-by-step illustrations and basic explaation. Cotact me for mor info on this.
