I have found a program (well, not found its one I bought for use on my PC)

That will successfully perform disk imaging of the MS hard drive...

Copies the image EXACTLY as it is, so if you ever change a hard drive, or are like me and just like to make regular images for backup purposes (and its a far far better system than JUST a backup, which really only backups data) you find it useful.

I first had the idea when I noticed that when running a disk restore on my PC, the program actually boots into a mini Linux kernel, so I thought... "I wonder???"

So I tried booting the MS with the boot disk, and yep, it runs sweet on the MS, and then allows me to do a full hard disk image (ext's swap..all of it) to an external backup USB drive...

So if anyone is interested I can send you futher details......

Dennis

PS: I had a message from Dom to syaay he will not be available for replies here, for about a day (maybe a little more) as he is busy getting the new 4.2 ready for us....

There are many of those programs miden...

most of them are freeware too, so they are really free.
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

On this downloadable free CD there is a collection of freeware including some tools for making complete backups/images from your drives.

And best of all they are free.. most of these tools are based on Linux. All you need to do is boot from CD rom.

there is allso a lot of other tools on the disk for whenever you get intoo PC trouble.

Are they GUI or command line? Most of the Linux ones I found were command line, and fat too easy to make a (critical) error.

The idea of the thread was not to start a competition on the best, worst or anything else...Just offering some help.

Why is EVEYTHING on this SZ so bloody confrontational...

Why does everyone HAVE to keep trying to prove they are better, or know more, or are cooler than everyone else..

Sheesh

Right I did not think I still had the old W98 boot disk, but I found it

I have sent you another email with the DOS drivers on it.

Extract to somewhere, then when the program asks for the source point to this folder, it shouldthen automatically create the DOS boot USB with all the drivers

If that does nto work, and it should, try:
http://wiki.fdos.org/Installation/BootDiskCreateUSB

Dennis

PS: It takes about 8-10 minutes so have an espresso while you wait
