I have owned both. i much prefer the Tyros 2 keybed. the PA 800 isnt too bad (its much better than the PSR keybeds) but it is still a bit spongey

thanks guys. Good to know that is at least better than the PSR's.

Nick, can you elaborate a bit on the 'spongey' part?
Usually Korg fits very good keyboards on their synth workstations, and as the PA800 is priced the same as their Triton and M3, I was wondering if the Pa800 actually has the same keybed as the Triton has

Price really has nothing to do with the keybed I had the Triton, and now the PA800, I also played the M3, out of the three, the M3 keybed is the best, followed by the Triton(more like a DX7 or Yamaha type) and then the PA800 which is softer when you play. Again these are personal tastes and it depends if you like piano type or organ type keybeds, I also played a Tyros 3 and if its the same as a Tyros 2, I guess it would be similar to the PA2X out of all of these.

I have played on the M3 and the PA 2x Pro. I have never touched a Triton.

The M3 keybed is pretty good (better than PA 2x and PA800)

I still think the FSX Keybed on the Tyros 2/3/4 and Motif XS/XF is cleaner and stiffer. As in - the keys don't rattle on hard release or they don't shift from side to side when u try and rub your hand over them. (not a big issue at all but if we are trying to compare apples to apples then YES there is a difference).

Honestly the PA 2x PRO felt almost identicle to the PA 800 to me... Ide say it might have been a "bit" better but it still surprised me because I have heard a lot of people comment on how good the PA 2X keybed was... I was left wondering if these people had ever laid their fingers on a Tyros /Motif XS/XF Keybed.

When I Say a keybed is spongey - its hard to explain... but I am trying to say the spring action is too soft and constant. the Tyros Keys almost have a "click" or a "snap" to them when you press them. again hard to explain but its just a more natural feel than many other keybeds.

When you press a tyros key down "black or White key" it goes all the way down even at the back up near the casing of the keyboard...

Whereas a PSR or a PA800 key just springs down from where the tips of the keys are and the back does not move. So if you press you finger lightly right up the back on the keys on the PA 800 you will find it much harder to make the key go all the way down...

hope this helps. If you go into a shop and experement on the different boards a lot of what I am saying will make more sense smile

Good Luck!
Nick

Not sure what was wrong with the PA2 you played....Mine has a super Keybed...Fatar and right now I can't remember the model.

Much...much better than the T2 I had for a while (Had them both at the same time) It is semi-weighed and pretty darn quiet.
BUT...I'm not a piano player...soI don't bang down on the keys like Piano players sometimes do...

Everything I have tried has some noise upon release....PA2 is better than most. The key bed is one reason I bought the PA2.
PA800 is softer..it is not semi-weighted I don't think, only played one for a very short demo.

The PA2 keybed is a good compromise betwee piano and organ action.
My 2 cents worth...

It is interesting that the Specs on both Tyros 2 and PA 800 are not semi weighted but the PA2X Pro is Semi- weighted. But if they feel the same, what do you go no, except personal preference, I guess. Try them all yourself and then decide.........

actually the T2's keys are semi-weighted. If you look at the inside bottom of the keys, you'll see these little metal pieces attached to the keys. Unweighted keybeds don't have these metal weights on them.

I too would prefer the PA2 to the PA800, the only issue is money ,as I am on a £ 1000 budget
