I suspect that you may need to set the global EQs a bit to achieve the sound quality you wish to achieve. To me, the S-910, fresh out of the box, is very flat sounding in comparison to the Tyros2. If you have not set the global EQs yet, press the Mixing Console button, tab to EQ, scroll down to User1, the press the Edit button. Try the following settings: EQ1=5, EQ2=4, EQ3=2, EQ4=4, EQ5=8 and see if this makes a significant difference when played through the onboard speakers. And, of course, with the Tyros2, there will be some differences with the sound system used as well. Hope this helps, Gary

But, let's be honest here. Is it likely that the S910 has the same quality DAC's that the TOTL Yamaha has? Or that the samples may be exactly the same length and compression?
I always noticed, when playing say a G1000 right next to a G600 (a friend has both) that the exact same patch sounds a LITTLE bit different from one to the other. A little thinner, less forward, more brittle, less warm, whatever. My friend now has an E60 and a G70, too (he's an inveterate collector!), so I might get the chance to A/B them, too. But from reports at Roland-arranger.com, I think some DID mention a slight perceived thinning out of the sound.
Maybe Ian (who has likely had them next to each other in a store, played through the same speakers, etc.) could comment about whether there is any difference in sound? It's probably slight, but I would be quite surprised if an arranger about $2000 less than the TOTL sounds IDENTICAL...

There is a difference in sound between the S910 and T2, especially when when played through some good speakers. I happen to have a friend's S910 besides my T2, played through Mackie SRM450's (same settings, cables, CMP OFF and EQ flat, Effects Off, Studio Drum Kit), and the T2 sounds much cleaner and discrete. Also, there is less noise coming from the T2 outputs.
As Diki said, it is all about the DAC's.
I remember doing the same thing with a VA76 and G1000, and guess what? The G1000 sound came out much better through the same speakers. The same thing goes for the PA800 and PA2x. Although Korg claims that it is basically the same machine, there is a difference in sound between the two.
Again, don't expect "HALF-WAY" decent DAC's from anything other than a TOTL arranger.
P.S. If the drums sound muddy and boomy on S910 or T2, especially the snares, try adjusting the LPF and HPF frequencies in the REVERB settings. I have achieved some very good resultswith this, where the snares and overall drums sound punchier in the mix. I also have the CMP turned OFF and Master EQ is used only to CUT certain frequencies.
