1. Not really. It doesn't have a sequencer nor a sampler, but has new features not available in the SD1 (e.g. Riff, Smart 7th, Alternate Bass ...etc) plus a ton of new samples - especially guitars!

2. The some differences between the XD9 and SD5 are ...
SD5 has semi weighted keys, better sounds (especially guitars, sax with more realism), more features like smart 7th, Arranger mute, auto fill, Riff, more live audio loops, bass ports in speaker cabinate for better response, live styles...etc
