[quote=DnjTo me Dave ..... spongy Psr = Fast Action wink [/quote]

Donny, I must agree that it's a fast action and I like it better (personal opinion) than the cheaper feeling Fatar used in some of the Korgs.

However, I can't agree that it is in any way "spongy"...it does not feel that way at all...it does have less resistance, and a more shallow key throw, but there's certainly no "sponginess" that I can feel, and I've played them a lot more than most here.

The S910's velocity sensitivity is second to none (again-my opinion)...you can press a key slow enough that there is no sound, much like a piano, and it's a good indication of how well velocity sensitivity is implemented on a keyboard.

Also another reason the S910 action feels "different", is that it does not have aftertouch...now, aftertouch can make a keyboard feel spongy, but only if it is poorly done...thankfully Tyros3/4's FSX action does it perfectly...most Fatar have an uneven rubbery feel because of the way aftertouch is implemented.

If it was me, I'd simply rejoice in the fact that it isn't a Fatar...the fact that it is "fast" is just another nice perk.

There certainly is nothing wrong with Fatar keybeds. I'm sure just like any mfg. they make lower end ones...Kurzweil has used the Fatar for many years with outstanding results.

They build many different models, both synth action and Hammer action.
Certainly some PSR's I have tried through the years had what I would call spongy keybeds....along wth other mfg too.

I do like the T4 better than PSR910

I'm sure some of Fatar's keybeds are terrific...the ones I played were not...they were cheap feeling, but acceptable.

Actually, I've never played a keyboard that was "spongy"...try pressing your finger on a sponge...none I ever played felt like that!

Perhaps there is a brand of sponge we can use as a standard? rolleyes

The cheaper Fatar, especially up to a few years ago, were horrendous; they not only felt cheap, but they were much less than durable...I'm sure they've gotten better...in fact, I hope they have gotten better.

I'm just biding my time...no rush at all to get a new arranger at this time...I like what I see in the new KORG PA3x 61 as far as "features" for my needs which in the long run I would have to weigh against my needs for a Yamaha again. In any event I would have to actually play one when it it is released to determine if it for me. Features vs Sound at this point......and then there is the New Roland module as a wild card entry wink

Ian,
That's interesting...Kurzweil has used those Fatars for many years and the Kurz is definelty a PRO synth and gets HEAVY use by it's users...
Haven't heard many complaints.

What keyboards that use Fatar are you refering to?

Lee they were the early Kurzweil synths...the K1000 and K2000...I have several friends using them that have had many issues with the keys and key contacts.

Of course, it's my opinion, but the keyboard on those synths certainly didn't suit the quality of sound they made.,..they were beautifully sounding instruments with second rate keyboard actions.

Yes, Fatar has improved over the years...as far as I know, the I-series Korgs used Yamaha actions. The newer ones are probably Fatar.
