The master of odd time signatures, Joe Morrello, died yesterday.

He made his name developing the Brubeck sound with his mentor, Dave. Heard him many times in the early 60's.

One of the finest, and a good guy!

So sorry to read of the passing of Joe Morrello .

BBC 4 Tv in the Uk featured an hour of music /interviews with Dave Brubeck .
It discussed his life and times .

it also featured Joe morrello and Paul Desmond .

Dave Brubeck was enthrolled by joe's ability to play in all the different time signatures .

Dave said that at one stage Paul Desmond had said to him that he would leave the trio if he kept Joe in the Trio .
Dave the great Gentleman said that both Paul and Joe were the essential part of the Dave Brubeck Trio and that no one was leaving the Trio .

He also discussed the Take 5 music it is the only Jazz music that reached number 1 in very country in the world that had a hit parade chart .

To me it is the iconic sound of the early sixties .
The tune came about because he has working on a projest about Time and he asked Paul Desmond to write a tune in 5/4 time .

He also said that many Jazz players try to play the tune to fast !!

i record the entire program on my VHS video recorder it will certainly be a keeper .

best Regards .....Giovanni
