I just got a used ipad and want to start replacing my Musicpad pro.

what apps should I look into that allow me to view pdf's and have playlist, or turn pages.

I have use Good Reader for the last year and it seems to do everything I need it to do. I also use unrealbook sometimes.

1. Unreal Book
2. Gig book
3. For score

Hi Frank, my eyes are probably older than yours, so the size and quality of the sheet music is important. I use MusicReader. Most of my files are printed from Sibelius or Microsoft Word. I like the annotations I can make in MusicReader, the playlists that are so easy to create, and using the AirTurn footswitch you can easily turn pages or even half pages.

The 4.0 release is pretty stable at this time, although there are still some wrinkles. Track record says those will be ironed out shortly, but meanwhile I have made the change 100% from MusicPad. Although I loved the MusicPad, using the MR on he iPad is better!

I'm glad you're liking your ipad's. Graham, how does that work with the half page thing if a line of music doens't show up entirely. In other words if it's partly cut off by the bottom of the screen.

I like the idea of the ipad and some of the things you can do with it, but the size is what would keep me from buying one.

Hi Scott, I create a lot of my music in Sibelius, so I can control how many lines of music I have on the page and the exact position of the staves. My ideal is to have at least 4 lines of lead sheet type music on a page so that when I (half) turn the page the bottom half of the screen is the last 2 lines of one page and the top of the screen is the top 2 lines of the next page. Sometimes, if I have a more complicated accompaniment arrangement that I want to include along with the vocal I can only get 3 lines, but even then I can get the last two lines of the accompaniment on the bottom half.

Also, although there is a slightly uncomfortable delay between footswitch and page turn, one line is usually enough time to find a space to do the job. I use the left foot for the page turn footswitch.

Like you, I was very unsure about the capability of the iPad until I was forced to start working with it when my MusicPad started to behave erratically. I was considering getting a $1000 tablet to work with MR that had the same screen size as MusicPad, but I honestly find the iPad does the job.

One thing I did do was to purchase a gooseneck and an xClip iPad mount from Air Turn. The gooseneck mounts onto a short mic stand and allows you to bring the iPad closer to you. I have a Pa2X and can bring the iPad in to just over the motorized screen and that really makes it easy to see!

A lot of the lead sheets I use require more than a single page but that has not been a problem because the Ipad scrolling is so easy to do. A swipe of the finger and it is done - back and forth.
