On another board someone said a yahoo group had started a campaign to boycott all CD purchases during august. Anyone heard of this?

With CDs costing 179SEK here in Sweden (about $17US) I'm all for it. Spread the word.

Maybe because they are tired of the so called " hit makers " shit .

i think that the idea is good, but there is no way to do this...

as for hit music, i think the biggest problem is the "now thats what i call music" series of compilations...it just perpetuates terrible music and the idea that it really is good music...

As someone works in music retail (HMV), I hope this doesn't happen as I won't be able to pay my rent, buy food and live.

It's all about the record companies. They HAVE to drop prices. When the Norah Jones CD was released, it went for $9.99 (US). The CD flew off the shelves. When the price was jacked up to $13.99 by the record companies, the sales went to sell at a snails pace.

The record companies are laughing at the people who came up with this idea. The idea is not to not buy CDs, its to not buy CDs of bands under certain labels. Independent labels can and should still be supported.
