A song I co-wrote and recorded back in 1984 with my slide show.

Nigel, looks like you're into photography, or at least graphics big-time. That's understandable, considering the graphics intense field you work in.

Me, too. Have an impressive, useless collection of 8"x10", 4"x5", 6x7, 2/14" and other cameras. the large format ones are still used for "top shelf" commercial photography, with a hard connected PC and a digital back.

Nice to see a conventional "slide show". That used to be industry standard. I produced thousands, operated via a proprietary Kodak players or player. Big shows sometimes utilized 30 or more projectors and screens 50 feet wide.

Smaller ones were shipped to sales offices...a carousel and a tape with audio and advancement signals.

What are you doing photography wise? I saw the "grab shots" from winter NAMM a year or so ago.

All the photos I found on Google and just waded through them to find those that best suited the video. The cool thing about the crowd photos is that they all create different textures and color effects and create unique responses from people.

I also recently did this one "Figment Of Imagination" to accompany a very eccentric song that I played with a synth pop band back in the 80s .... I used to feel alright ...

I think that getting together on projects like this would be awesome! What I admire is, you took the time to do something for no commercial purpose; just to have fun and be creative.

My belief is you have to make more than $50,000.00 to be creative. That's the difference between "creative" and "crazy". Make any less and you're just a crazy SOB.

Sadly, I haven't done fun projects like these forever. Everything is on deadline...I've sold out.

Well done, simple, creative fun.

Yep, that's me .... I definately am a crazy SOB .... "I used to feel alright" confused2 Actually, it's just fun for me to do. And I am getting old so want to put some original stuff I have worked on over my life onto Youtube because then it may last forever. If the Internet had been around 30 years ago I would have done it back then. So I am am merely catching up now. The recording quality isn't even so important as is the spirit of the music. That "Figment Of Imagination" was just lifted from a cassette recorded live at one of our bar gigs.

This is terrific work Nigel!

Man, you are a dark horse for sure.

Those tunes are very well written and performed, and the slide shows are excellent.

If you have more of this, please post it.

Ian

Thanks so much Ian. I'm pleased that they entertained you. The only other recent one I have made was "My Place" that is posted on an earlier thread.
http://www.synthzone.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/326860/My_Place#Post326860

The cool thing about My Place is that although the song is in 4/4 the drums play in 7/8 through the verses and end up wrapping around just in time for the 4/4 choruses.

One feature of "Too Many People" which is the first song on this thread is that the opening verse is sung by Colin Haye from "Men At Work" ( of Downunder and Who Can It Be Now fame ). Because the album we were making for EMI back in the 80s was post humous for the singer that had tragically died, and we were using vocal tracks from demos we had played on with him, we were missing a good recording of the opening verse. We ran into Colin Haye in the hallway at EMI Sydney and told him about it so he simply walked into the studio and sang that opening verse for us and also added harmonies to the choruses. A great guy especially considering that at the time he had a top 10 hit in the USA. He asked for nothing and got legal clearance for us to use his vocal on the album. A real gentleman.

I just added one more clip of a song written by Guy McDonough that we recorded after his death in 1984 with his brother Bill filling in for lead vocal.
The band we played together in was The Flatheads, which explains the bizzare fish images that open the clip.

Nigel, this is awesome.

Love the tune, and the arrangement, and the slide show is perfect with the lyrics.

It does have a bit of the 80's sound, but also still sounds fresh even today, some 27 years later.

Tight harmonies, and nothing overdone...just right!

Great work, indeed.
