Hello SZ friends,

My wife and I recorded this Spanish language bolero a few months ago. This is one of our "singnature" songs - one that we play on just about every gig. The Latin crowd knows and loves it.

This was done on my Tyors 2. My buddy Jason Davis played a nice solo (even though he never of heard the tune)

Perhaps the percussion and bass are a bit hot: I was going for the live band sound -sometimes I was I had an Audya:)

Absolutely wonderful!!!!! I loved it. I can't believe that is the T2. It sounded great.

The Sax solo was awesome so was the piano work.

That was some very nice music. Nice keys, vocal and sax.

Take a listen to Europa on this link. I'm using the same Bolero Lento style on a Tyros 2 played live. The mic was left on and you can hear a little talking. I recorded it and all songs on this page including vocal direct onto the T2 hard drive. I always set the level at 40 in case we get loud. I did no sound editing. The mic is a 30 year old Shure that probably needs a new diaphragm. Compare the sound and tone quality and see what you think in comparison

Al, yes it was a T2. Also I used a GEM digital piano on the overdub. My wife is just singing, but she does have a solid piano background and a good ear. In fact sometimes she teaches parts from some of the cover songs we do.

Scott, I liked your recordings very much. Both the vocals and keyboard playing sounded fantastic. Thanks for sharing!

Scott - Great job on the Tyros, both right and left hand.

Paul - I listened to your arrangement several times. It was really good, but I have a few suggestions. Your wife's voice is superb, and the volume should be brought up a bit on her mic to bring it more up front. Additionally, a slight touch of reverb and a tiny bit of echo/delay would add a lot of depth to her vocals. She is an excellent singer.

The sax solo should have also been a bit more up front, which would have placed more emphasis on the solo during that segment of the performance.

Overall, the entire arrangement was very, very good and I enjoyed it immensely.

Hi Paul. I especially enjoyed your song because it captured the feeling of a "live" club performance.
Your wife delivered a lot of vocal passion and feeling.
What does the songs title: "Sabor a Mi" mean in english?
Also do you have an english translation of the lyrics?

Did you overdub the GEM digital piano parts after or before your wife laid down her vocal track?
I assume Jason Davis was playing a "real" live acoustic saxophone, right?
Which Tyros 2 instrument parts were auto-accompaniment tracks and which were played live by you on Tyros 2?
Realizing you are an accomplished professuonal percusiionist, did you perform these on an acoustic percussion set or on Your Tyros?
Please share how you multracked this song.
Your sound production quality is continuing to improve with each subsequent posting here.

Gary, thank you for taking the time to listen to my recording several times. I appreciate your thoughtful critic. The mixing process is not something I enoy or am very good at. If we ever get around to do a "re-mix", I'll keep your suggestions in mind.


Scott, first I recorded the basic LH accompaniment track on the Tyros 2. Then Cynthia sang her part. We then tracked in one take the piano and sax (at the same time)

I find live drums and percussion very hard to record/mix with the gear I have so I just used the pre-set "bolero-lento" style on the Tyros 2. I just brought up the percussion/ and bass volume to try to get that Audya/live club band sound. I think I muted the piano and pads parts. Thanks for your coments Scott. I hope we can talk when I get back to the States. I'll be in SO CA in early Aug.
