I believe the kronos cannot beat the tyros 4 on
Bread and butter sounds...no keyboard can smile

I agree, but that combo does sound nice, sure the T4 would manage without the Kronos, shut off the Kronos close your eyes, would you know the difference, I doubt it, excellent demos all the same.

Thanks Scotteeeeeee

the demos were nice. Been a fan of Petry Gilles for a while now. I dont know if there is any benefit in pairing the Kronos with the T4. The Kronos in that set up is virtually redundant. The only possible advantage i can see in using the Kronos with a T4 is if you wanted to use the Karma function live whilst accessing the SA voices on the Tyros and not the other way round as shown in the demo. As a live instrument , the Kronos has nothing over the T4 in terms of real world instrumnets. Its guitars are awful, its brass and wind instruments cannot compare to the T4 and its pianos definately have a darker texture to the brightness of the yamaha but thats just tastes. But in the studio thats where the Kronos would shine .

OOTB I would agree, but then that is not what a workstation is about, it’s about taking the basic sounds and modifying them to an infinite degree to suit your taste and project, once you do this even the best of the T4 sounds pale in comparison.

A lot of users don’t want this though, and for them a T4 is a cracking board to have, as you can sound good (Or how the designer intended you to sound) relatively easily.

If you want flexibility however, and you don’t want to go the software route (Either separate or in a single unit) then a T4 and Kronos gives you a brilliant combination of sounds, styles and flexibility.

For me personally, if software VST wasn’t available, it would have to be a similar combination to the above, as there is currently no hardware arranger on the market that gives me the sound and flexibility I enjoy.

NOTE: I have been using computers and software since the early 80s, (Moving into VST in the late 90s) so I am used to the sound and flexibility it gives me, and just could not go back to the limitations of just hardware. Fortunately my Abacus allows me to have both, and has the bonus of being perfectly acceptable in a lounge, rather than stuck in the office or a dedicated music room.

One thing a would like to repeat though, is that for most users an arranger will be all that they need, (No matter what the make) it’s just that I’m not your typical arranger player, so I have a different outlook on what’s out there.

Enjoy whatever you play

Bill

Yes, it does sound good, but, you are right; the T4 would manage just fine without the Kronos, and, of course, be much simpler being used live by itself.

The Tyros4 allows enough basic tweaking (without using the supplied PC editor) to allow the user to "adjust" things to his/her liking, and as Spalding has suggested, the Kronos addition would probably only be really useful when using it's Karma engine along with Tyros4 sounds.

The Tyros4 is, by far, the best arranger I've ever used...no, it's not perfect, but it's pretty darn close in my opinion, and I know I'm not the only one that feels that way.

Tony, have you thought of pairing up your Audya with your Tyros4?

Ian,

I will need a hell of a big double stand for the two of them. The Audya is the biggest KB ever made, me thinks. I don't think I will get much for the Audya if I try to sell it, even though the list is £4300, it is an highly elevated price because its a one off KB.

Thanks Tony...it is a shame about the Audya...it held much promise not that long ago....I believe several users (some here on SZ) have already sold theirs.

I think a better combination, and one with a more realistic price, would be a PA3X with a PSR-S910.

The mix sounded good, and they are quality video's, but I agree the combination is not needed. The Kronos was not much of a 'helper' in these recordings.
Thanks for posting Scott

Hi Ian,
tend to agree. That way one can have both Yammie & Korg styles.

I've actually been thinking about midiing my old psr1500 to my PA3x. The korg voices are superior to the old PSR1500 voices so I could use the Korg for melody voices.
If all goes well, I may even be able to use korg for style voices also. Just depends on how korg responds to psr's xg bank & program changes. Korg now has xg drumkits as well as gm & it's own

Only thing I find really awkward is having one arranger keyboard stacked on another, trying to get to both lots of buttons. Modules are so much better.
