Well, my story is the following:
I bought a famous brand name, Locked USB drive with styles and sounds for my KORG PA800 about 2-3 years ago,two weeks ago I experienced distortion from the samples, I got scared that the sample RAM on the PA800 would be defective but after troubleshooting the problem I see that the USB drive has gone bad, because if I do not load the drive everything works great with my user samples.
I contacted the company which is in Turkey and in most of my emails they would say that it probably got a virus(my fault),or their product has never broke down(my fault),the warranty is for one year,so whatever response I would get from them meant zero customer support and my fault that the drive went bad,I did state to them that I will post to a few forums and they really don't care,
although I don't know if I should write in this post who the manufacturer is,my conclusion is that I bought the rights to these styles and samples and the media has failed, shouldn't the manufacturer of the product replace this media? no matter how many years go by? looks like I wasted my money because of poor customer support by an arrogant manufacturer who thinks that they have the greatest product and would buy from them no matter what.

Not sure how a locked USB drive gets a virus, if it's only used on the keyboard?

If after politely asking and they say no, tell them, don't ask them, that you will send the defective USB drive back, and that you expect a new one in return. Even if there is a charge, you can't really complain as the guarantee has expired. However, they should give you a nice discount.

...Tough one, don't give up, and good luck

I agree that a reputable company should help you out, but I must say one thing: WHY DIDN'T YOU BACK UP THAT DRIVE IMMEDIATELY...

I believe a locked USB is encrypted by the manufacture/maker so that it is read only, and the files within can't be duplicated, copied, or backed up. Further the drive will only work with the targeted hardware, in this case the Korg PA800

I will not give them another penny, and I don't think they would cooperate with any compromise, since the tone of the emails was that it was my fault of the outcome of their perfect product.

Although a KORG PA800 cannot get a virus, I did back up the scrambled samples when I first got the product, you can see what is on the drive because it is locked hardware wise, I guess on the chip and I did rewrite the data to the drive but that didn't work either, that was one of the solutions that I tried.
