STYLE. Simply put this is a rhythm (with Drums, bass and chords) that can be used to perform songs ... etc. A style (e.g. COUNTRY-1) is simply just that ... a style. You can choose to use this style to play many songs ... depending on your repetoir. You can EDIT/Modify a style (e.g change the instrumets the various players (bass, chords, drums) are playing ... etc).
Now, let's say you are on stange, and someone requests ... "I will Always Love you" by Whitney Houston. You will have to 'search' for the appropriate STYLE (e.g. 8 Beat 1), search for the appropriate tempo (e.g. 80), set up the voice you would want to use ... (e.g Sax with a 2nd voice of Strings), set up the Transposer values (if/when applicable) ... etc. From the time someone requested the song to when you actually start playing could take you about 2mins (depending on how familiar you are with the instrument).
REGISTRATION (REGISTERS) HOWEVER .... suppossed you had done all this at home a while back and saved the setting (song setting) into a REGISTER (e.g REGISTRATION 001?) Then ALL you would have to do is press REGISTRATION - key in "001" and instantly all the above settings are recalled for you to start playing the song.
Registrations are simply SONG SETTINGS. A REGISTER controls the style, voice, pedal settings, panel status, Midi settings ... etc of the keyboard at a given time. Depending on the keyboard, you can setup over 190 REGISTRATIONS (or song settings) so that at the show, when you want to go from one song to another, you simply TYPE in the co oresponding registration number - which is a lot easier and faster than trying to search for the style, sounds and other keyboard settings on stage.
Hope this is clearer.
Thanks,
AJ

Tony, AJ et al, I don't own a Ketron product so; I have no experience only questions. I will buy a Midjay as soon as I can get answers to my questions. I did bid, unsuccessfully, on the Midjay that AJ had on ebay last week. AJ partially answered one of my questions that being the possibility of saving style registrations. I would like to know if you can save the registrations with song titles rather than '001' etc. And, from another Ketron forum, I learned that it is possible to save the registrations in a particular file and in a specific order, depending how they are identified since the Midjay displays in alphabetical or numerical order. I also learned that you can edit and save midi files to a playlist and again, in a specific order. An additional question; is it possible to expeditiously navigate between the midi file playlist and the style registrations file? Here’s how I currently do it with the Genesy XP or the PA 800: I have set 50 minute sets or shows, with both style registrations and midi files. With the XP, I have midi files in a playlist, in the order that I want to play them. To get to my style registrations (called ‘memories’ in the GEM products) I tic the “Memories” button, then a single number to choose the tune I want and start. To go back to the midis, I push the DB (Data Base) button, up pops my playlist as I left it, I choose the next tune and “enter” to start the midi and it will automatically play the next tunes on the list until I choose to go back to “Memories”. With the PA 800, there is only need for one playlist which can contain both style registrations and midi files, in any order I choose, and I just press “Next” to play whatever follows on the list be it midi or style. The money question: With the Midjay, is it possible to do something like what I’m currently doing or is there a comparable way to navigate between styles and files that will not require too much time between tunes? (For me, when on stage, more than 8 seconds is too much time). Ciao, Jerry
P.S. Tony, Sorry, I didn’t mean to highjack your post.

Hey Jerry T! I own Midjay since nov.I had SD1+ before so I'm pretty ok with Ketron way of thinking. I'm using Midjay everynight and I found it easy to work as long as you get acomodate with the system..like any other arranger in fact. So, while you play a mid you can select a Mp3, style, registration, wave and so on.Single problem is when you have a text runnig with mid, you have to exit text screen to search for anything else. About registrations..is very simple, like user program in Roland. You can "record" all the settings like style (twist),patch for right hand, also for left,EQ,effects ...in a file with a certain name ,let's say "Twist Again", then Midjay has a button "Registrations" calling a folder in the root of the HDD...all you have to do is to scroll and select the one you want.I didn't used any playlist yet but I'll experment this days. Hopes this helps a little. Vio
