I have a new Win7 laptop. It came with McAfee virus protection and is nagging me like crazy. I have used free AVG in the past, but seems it is getting invasive, as well. I don't mind paying something, I don't have to have the free version, if it's good. Any recommendations? It seems McAfee or maybe it's Norton, has a less than stellar reputation? Anyone up on this stuff?

Norton went through a few bad years in the early 2000s, (You avoided it like the plague or purchased an ultimate powerful computer to run it) but it is now back up there with the best, MacAfee however just gets worse and worse, and is really nothing but an overpriced joke these days.

Trend Titanium is another good one, not because it is better than Norton (They are about the same) but it worked out cheaper than renewing my Norton 2011.

AVG is still a good system, but has become rather bloated these days.

For general use there is no need to pay anything (Unless you regularly go on dodgy sites or have kids) and so the free Microsoft Security Essentials will probably be all you will need. (Make sure you leave Automatic Updates turned on though)

There are many reviews out there, so read through a few from different sources to give you additional ideas.

WARNING: Never have more than one anti-virus/security Suite on a computer at a time.

Hope this helps
