Years back on the Technics forum there was a very active knowledgeable helper, he wrote a book on the subject that people wanted; “How to get the most from your Kn7000”. He seemed to have the answer to every problem that was asked. My question; Is there a similar person that has Korg knowledge? Wow wouldn’t that be helpful God knows my Pa800 is challenging me. Happy to say there is, John Smies.

Recently he offered some of his work in a package, he asked for a donation of $40 (I think that’s right) and I told him I was interested. $40 is not much if I was going to get some Good styles. He sent me a surprise package; this was before I had sent him any money. I was amazed; the package was filled with Styles, Performance, (Panel Memory), Instrument sounds and more – converted from different instruments. I was happy to see he included works from my last keyboard, Kn7000.

His work in the different areas is almost flawless but not anymore flawless than the work I have been buying at $29 for 10 styles. I could use John’s work as is it is good but I want to add some of me. As of yet I have not been able to go through all of his work there are so many.

Please keep in mind that I received only the advanced surprise package, the main order is on its way; from what I understand the main order will contain many more times the work I have already received.

Enough about dollars – I am a new fan of John Smies, I just do not know of another single person who has done so much work in areas that are needed for the Korg owner. And he is freely giving it away. I say free because $40 for this type of work cannot be considered payment. For nine months I have been programming and working and trying to understand the korg OS; I am doing well but I wondered where was I going to find the time to create some great styles, sounds, and performances, things that I feel are good. John just solved that problem.

I will write again when I receive John’s work.
If it sounds like I am holding a flag for John it is only because when I see a talent who has put in so much time and the wants to share his talent so freely I have to admire him. I now have new Latins, Shuffles, Big Band, Ballads, and much more.

Life is good, John C.

Hi John,
Just what I have been thinking, I think Technics Player ( Alex) knew more about the KN7000 than the manufacturers did.
My Korg PA3X 76 arrived last week, and I sure could use a book of that caliber on the new beast. The trouble is when you have been using , as we have, a keyboard for 12 years, and got to know the ins & outs by heart it is very daunting to learn a totally different system.
I was very interested in your post on John Smiles, if he is doing any help packages I would be most interested, how do you contact him.
By the way we are still using the KN for gigs, lots of work for Ballroom & Sequence dances still around.
Good to hear you are still playing, Im sure that Music keeps us all young ( at heart anyway )

Regards

Eddie

Hi Eddie,

" Don't call us, we'll call you " !!!!

Seriously though, and this goes for a few more here on the forum. I will not provide any assistance or software in the foreseeable future for the Korg PA3X. As I explained elsewhere here on SZ I have made other choices for my homeplaying, which include the PA800 and the Yamaha PSR3000. In June last year I had the PA3X at home for two weeks but I felt it was not the right choice for me and I still feel that way. I also fear that there will be relatively little software available that is made for the PA3X in particular. Of course there is a mountain of PA800 and PA2x styles that run smoothly with the 3X, or at times need some tweaking.
But performance wise there is no one that I know who has engaged himself in this time consuming programming. Unfortunately my 2012 Resources for the PA2X/PA800 which are reviewed very favourably by all and sundry come out crap on the PA3X, so little comfort there.......

Best wishes,
John Smies

Hi Eddie,
do you belong to the Korg Forums? might be worth your while joining if you don't.
Alex was a gem. In the end, I think I missed the Technics Forum more than I missed my KN7 after I sold it back in 2004.

There used to be a DVD set available Korg Arranger Secrets for the PA1x & PA2x
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=50
though not specifically for the PA3x, it might be helpful if it's still available.

Scott got a copy recently.

It's not easy learning a new system, but it should prove worth it.
