My advice to anyone purchasing the Korg Micro Arranger would be threefold, as could be your way of playing on it.
It goes without saying that your initial response will be to simply play the keyboard as it is, that is with its small keys and its factory presets. But that soon wears out. So my advice would be to hook it up to your major keyboard and solely use the keys of this major keyboard to play the Korg.
Once you have done that to such a degree that you know what's cooking you can move on to what I would dub a "definitive hook up" giving you maximum freedom without having to use the mini keys for accompaniment or most of your solo playing.

I have worked out a MIDI setting on the assumption that your major keyboard is a Yamaha one. I invite all those with a Yamaha and the new Korg Micro to give it a try. You can find my set ups on page 8 of my webpages:

http://pasounds.intropagina.nl/page-8-hooking-up-your-micro-to-major-arranger-keyboard.html

It goes without saying that folks who want to do this with a Roland or Ketron will have to check their manual as to Midi transmit.

regards,
John Smies

P.S. and of course getting my 2012Micro Resources might be a good start sound- and style-wise..

Although there are some who will disagree, I think the real value of the microArranger is best seen when it is hooked up, as John Smies so expertly explains, to a keyboard with full size keys.

I was wondering...if the controller keyboard will transmit aftertouch, will the microArranger respond?

I'm thinking, yes, but it would be good to know for sure.

Ian,

Its all very well all this, but wouldn't it be better to weigh them all in and just buy the Pa3x, I know the pa3x cannot be play in the toilet, but s...t who wants to. John's got some goodies for the Pa3x surely. My head hurts, I'm due back in the home at 22:00hrs. John if I buy a Pa3x what FOC goodies have you got, I have a tyros 4 that sounds like a full 20 rank Wurlitzer.

Stay with it Tony !!
I mentioned only yesterday in one of the threads regards the Micro that I opted for the PA800 in June last year and therefor do not have or will not have any resources for the PA3X. ( meanwhile I have superb resources for the PA800/PA2X though....)
I understand you are one of the proud owners of a Tyros 4 so the Micro , my resources for the Micro and in particular hooking up the Micro to your Tyros should be of great interest to you ? But then I suppose you are in the same boat as we here on the Continent, that is the fact that the Micro is not in the shops yet. Though their arrival is imminent or so I hear...
I would definitely give it a try owing a tyros. The Micro sounds anything but s.....tty. Besides, what have you got to loose ? your head is already hurting by your own admission !!!!!!!! rotfl

Ian, yes it will receive aftertouch from a controller..but you need to turn off the midi filter in global, to do so.....

Fran,

Have you tried out playing all of the Micro via your G70 ?
If so it would be instructive to learn which Midi settings you have
to use on the Roland, as you know I have sorted things out ( I hope)
for those owing a Yamaha Tyros/PSR.

regards,
John
