Anyone have any insight about using an iPad as your DAW? As for me, this is for multi-track recording, especially acoustic instruments. Some guitar/vocal only, some, I would add other instrument/harmony tracks.

I have a Zoom H4n and a Fostex MR8 that can work but I like simple (and easier to use). I wondered if the iPad by now has some pretty powerful apps. I've found some but wonder what is good. This would be for not only high quality demo's but even (possibly) a commercial release CD.

+1 for Stephenm's suggestion. I use it for field recording on the iPad2 using iOS5.Using a Tascam US800 I can record up to 8 discrete tracks of audio.

This I can then transfer to my PC as raw wav files for further editing. A great app!!

Make sure iPad 1 is running iOS5xxx and get the iPad camera connection kit if you want to use standard midi USB interfaces.

Edirol UM1 for example...pretty much any basic midi usb i/f will run using the camera connection kit.

I use the US800 as audio, but I also have the iRig midi dongle for midi.
