Hello everyone and Happy New Year! I know it's been a month already since the New Year, but I just have to say it!

Just wondering if anyone here has tried the Korg Kronos or owns one. People say it is a breakthrough board in terms of sound, but I was wondering if there is anyone out there using it purely for live arranger gigs.

Thanks and regards,
J I N X

Its a workstation and despite KARMA its still more like the Motif then the Tyros..

Arranger funtions can be programmed in KARMA but will allways be very basic... but even more then that, need to be programmed and created by yourself. There is no library with 45000 Yamaha styles available nor an easy way to convert these to KARMA programs.

Youll never have arranger intros and endings.

So the answer is no, KRONOS is not a replacement for an Arranger, but more an evolved version of a Synth Workstation. With 9 different synth engines and KARMA that allow for unimmaginable creativity when creating your own music, but much less suited for arranger gigs where you try to copy other peoples music.

Thanks for your replies and links!

I finally got a chance to check it out.....and while it was nice, for someone who has used software samples for some time now....the sounds aren't that groundbreaking. I didn't test out the KARMA part of it but I'm familiar with it from previous Korg stuff. As a standalone keyboard, I'm sure it has the most extensive sound engine....it's a tad pricey though!

I still miss my trusty ol' SK76 from Generalmusic!

Yikes! Are you sure you were demoing the Kronos??? Can you name all 9 synth engines? Only ONE of the engines (HD1) in the Kronos uses Samples. The EP-1 (electric pianos) and CX3 (Hammond) engines alone are outstanding, so expressive and customizable.

I think you better get back to the shop and spend some more quality time with that instrument. There are THOUSANDS of programs and Combi's in that beast most of which are truly inspiring. And for those sounds that don't make the cut, this board has limitless customizability.

No doubt it is a stunning keyboard BUT if someone uses the plethora of amazing software available (VSTs) then it is pricey and not as "wow" compared to those moving over from another synth.

Al,

Is this the same KB we are talking about, I don't think dongggoi has spent enough time on it, when he says the sounds aren't that groundbreaking. It's a KB not a jackhammer. Audiologist next stop
for our dongggoi. Mind you he could be a young chap and it's us Al who have the hearing problems. Anything sounds good when you are getting old. violin

Now let this be a lesson to you, don't go listening to a demo of a top notch workstation (TNWS)in a "JUNK GUITAR CENTRE" like musicforyourday says, he's right, you won't hear it at it's best, or through a headset, anyway you guys can take it home for a while and if are not happy just take it back.
