One of the best piano sounds I've heard is from truepianos.com I'm wondering if this can be taken and made into samples that would work on a T4 or Korg.

I've heard of software samplers. Are they as good as the others?

Could one take Truepianos and do what I'm talking about? Easy or hard to do? Would it sound as good as the original if so?

The thing I've noticed about so many samples is when you get about an octave above middle C the notes start sounding kind of "tinky".

I know that morphing was used on Truepianos and I'm sure it's used on others to make it sound more real.

I'd like to hear a discussion on this that a novice would understand if possible.

Unless you have a boatload of time to spare, forget it. (It could be done but the amount of work involved to make it sound anything like is painstaking)

If you really like it, get a Laptop with a high quality external soundcard with ASIO drivers, then Midi it to your keyboard.

There is special software http://www.extranslator.com you can do this but like Bill said it is very complicated and time consuming.

I have pianissimo and sound very good and it is not too expensive.

I agree with Bill. Some years ago, I bought an Ensoniq EPS-16+ sampling keyboard. I never did plan to do my own sampling. I just bought commercially available raw samples and tried to turn them into usable voices. I had to spread them across the keyboard, loop and crossfade them, EQ them, apply the envelope parameters, etc, etc. After a couple of months I ended up with two voices that did not sound anywhere near as good as a set of 8 finished voices I could have bought from Ensoniq for $30. After that, I just stuck with the ROMpler keyboards. There is a reason that good sampled voices are somewhat expensive. Good sampled voices take a lot of time and a lot of work to get them to sound right.

Treu piano's is as far as i know a virtuall emulation and not sample based...

The sound is calculated through mathematic formulas to represent the accoustics of a real piano and all different things that influnce the sound. Much like Rolands V-piano

So instead of sampling the VSt instrument, you could just as well sample the real instruments..

True piano does not offer exact copies of real piano's but tries to capture the spirit of them and then they create a piano sound with its own charasteristics around that spirit.




You'd need VST support to get the sound of those pianos... so either a Mediastation or a Wersi could do that for you.

Tough personally i have allways been hoping for an interface that allows me to directly controll and choose the VSt's (running on sepperate PC hardware) from my arranger UI.

a few years back , when I was going thru the software arranger phase, I had a demo version midied to my clavinova to get a better piano sound.


Did you want it for home use or performance. Have you considered midiing your pc to your keyboard.

Sampling & getting decent sounds, you'd really have to understand what you're doing. Way over my head. I'm fiddling round with sd2 Live drums for my korg, that's complex enough for me.

If I used it it would be for performance, but the answers I'm getting sounds like it would be way more trouble than it's worth.

The T4 piano is very good. It's just that I was always impressed with the truepianos sound.

No doubt the guys are right.

I've loaded instrument samples into my PA800, but they're not samples I've recorded or converted ( whatever ) they were professionally done by someone who knew what they were doing.

I've fiddled round with soundfonts & drum loops etc for my PA3X, but the only reason I'd load them into my keyboard is because I need that particular sound & it doesn't exist in my keyboard . For instance , I'm converting some of my old ketron styles for my korg. Korg doesn't have the Live Drums, so it's closer to the style for me to create a Ketron Live Drum kit from samples, than it would be to try & find similar sounds in my korg. More than likely, they may not exist.

Stick with your T4, can't imagine the piano's aren't great.
Personally I really like Yamaha piano's.

I really can't remember if in the end I decided that the demo version had a better piano sound than my Clavinova or not. Maybe the sound difference was negligable. Really can't remember.I did have a top of the line ( non arranger ) clavinova, though.
I do know I never ended up buying the software though.
