just wanted to know peoples thoughts.
are there any major drawbacks on this synth over current day synths?

does it have the "same" sound quality as PA 800 or better / worse?

Nick

Hi Nick,

I owned and performed with a TE 4 years ago. Even then the sounds were kind of dated. I fellow keyboard player who stood in for me on keys when I had to fill in for our drummer used a TE with my current band and it really sounded dated. You can add samples if you want to deal with the long startup time to load them. If you can get it cheap, it might be nice to have in your toolkit. I think it might be a step or so down from the PA800/Pa2x.

I own the Kronos now and of course it's a beast when compared with the TE. But it was a pricey beast.

What is dated? Todays music make still use sounds of synths from the seventies and eighties. I own software versions of the Korg M1 and Wavestation and they sound great.

Tony can you please ask this question privately or in a separate thread? It has nothing to do with the topic of this thread.
thanks

Hi Al,

thanks for the reply,

I understand the Triton Extreme would have dated bread n butter sounds like Sax / Brass / Guitar / Strings / Wood / Flute etc.

I am more interested in Synth Sounds / Drums / Bass / effects.

I imagine the original Triton would most likely be the same as PA 800 series but I know the Triton Extreme was alot better.

just curious to know your thoughts?

thanks
Nick

Hi Nick,

Yes, you are right. The dated sounds are the "Acoustic" class sounds which are so much a part of how I perform on stage with my wedding band.

The synth portion of the TE is that classic Korg sound. I had the MOSS board in my TE and that added excellent vintage Z1 sounds. That's what I love about Korg, and that's probably what inspired them to build the Oasys and the Kronos.

Getting back to the synth sounds, they are VERY good and I loved that board. I would have kept it if I had unlimited funds, but I always sell and buy to trade "UP". I found the TE very easy to program and use; it is very intuitive. I love how Korg allows you to have 12 tracks in combi's to program.

However, I would much rather have a Yamaha Motif either ES or XS in my collection rather than the TE because it also has really good synth sounds AND acoustic sounds. Plus, you will be able to have Karma on the PC shortly with the Motif. I currently own the XF and it's also my goto synth for 80's sounds. I have several 3rd party voice libraries for he XF (which I moved from the ES that still work in the XF) and they have some of those signature voices such as Separate Ways - Journey, Tears for fears, etc.... You get the idea.

I guess it boils down to which "sound" style you want to go with that "Korgish" or "Motifish" sound. Best to go play them both and judge for yourself.
