I happened to see this listed on craigslist in my town:

"32gig Nearly New iPad 2 w/wifi.
This is my personal iPad and it has never been beat up in anyway. Attached the Invisible Shield from day one, and a smart cover.
includes original box and extras, invisible shield, as well as the cover."

I have never played with one of these and wondering if there is anything I should be aware of or looking for.

What about this Invisivle shield and Smart Cover. I assume they can be removed if desired?

I guess the main questions would have to do with the battery? I guess Apple will put in a new one for $30 shipped, does anybody know if that is correct?

Am also wondering about AC cord and any other cords or accessories if any are missing and what that kind of stuff might cost if I had to order it.

Anyway, I'm thinking at $150 it's at least worth a look. I'm thinking if I don't like it I ought to be able to sell it for more, wouldn't you think? What's your ideas on this?

Scott

Also, I presume that I can access pdf's the same way as on my laptop? I have a folder of my current playlist and just open it and scroll if needed and double click on the pdf file.

Worth a look, I seem to remember that originally Apple quoted $99 for a battery replacement when the first iPad was released. That price for an iPad 2 seems very low VZ Wireless offered me a trade in of $300 for my iPad2. I'm not upgrading but I demoed the new iPad the sales rep said he could offer a trade, I asked how much? My iPad is 3g/wifi with Verizon. Smart cover and invisible sheild can be removed. I don't care for the smart cover and purchased another type that functions better than the smart cover ZooGue Cover

I have bought and sold many items on Craigslist including arrangers, cameras and computers I've never been burned. I prefer it to e-bay since I meet my buyer locally in a public location and will only accept cash. If I'm buying I bring cash. Last year I purchased a camera from a restaurant owner in nearby Connecticut, my wife and I met him at his restaurant. He bought and paid for lunch and ate with us while he was going thru some of the features of the camera he thought were important.

PDF's are even easier to access using unReal Book
unReal Book at the App Store

Hi Scott,
I own the original Ipad and so far have seen no reason to purchase either the 2nd or third edition of it. I use my Ipad on gigs for leadsheets almost daily and the battery life is still in the 6 to 7 hour range. I don't even plug it in on gigs - but I do make sure it is fully charged for gigs.

I can't see why folks would "give away" their Ipad for that kind of price - I sure wouldn't.

Scott, there are two main apps folks use for displaying PDF leadsheets - one is GoodReader and the other is UnrealBooks. I have both and both are very good. Each cost me under $5.00 which is a real bargain for what they do. You transfer the PDFs from you computer using Itunes. The process is not hard but does take some time to get your lists setup. There is also very good search capability in both apps when you get requests.

Let us know how you get along. For $150.00 it if you want an Ipad go for it. By the way - ask if the case is included - the Ipad is very slippery and can be dropped easily. Also, check into the "GigEasy" stand for gigs. I just got one and it is wonderful.

Hi Scott, the smart cover is a good idea....

The shield is a thin film of plastic (sorta kinda) film that adheres (not permanently) to the display.

Personally I do not like them (shields) as I feel they inhibit touch response and DO decrease the luminosity...And really, the iPad screens use a special glass that is very VERY tough, and under normal usage conditions is really difficult to scratch...Well if you want to run keys or something deliberately across it, yes you CAN scratch it, but in everyday use, no...My screen has been to numerous gigs, used to read books, used on planes and in cars for general internet and email duties, and is still the same as it was the day I bought it!!

It is an iPad two you are looking at here, so I would be thinking you have at least another two years+ minimum left in the battery, and even then you wills till get around 75% of full capacity...Just make sure you do a "full-cycle" charge at least once a month. This is where you allow it to run down until the unit turns off automatically and will not turn on as there is not enough battery power...usually at around 1% or less...then plug into the MAINS using the adaptor (not usb 2 or 3) and charge to 100%.....

A good app for doing this and keeping charging records is Battery Doctor..has a free version, but I recommend the paid for version as it offers a lot more...

Looks like a scam, this is the email that was returned. The zdibby link I googled minus the dot org and nothing showed up, which is what I expected, so I did not click on the link.

"Hello,

Someone just purchased this from me, but I will show you where I got it from. I grabbed 3 brand new ones on zdibby.org ,and have been reselling them here and also on ebay to make additional money.

Lately, not very many people have been bidding so it’s easy to win. The secret is always to bid only if the counter hits 4 secs and you just win essentially every time. .

If we can do it anybody can.

All the best !

Susan"

I've read several reports regarding scams and using on-line ads to lure in victims with cash. People show up at the appointed place to view the merchandise and are "held up" or strong-armed out of their cash by the perpetrators.

Exercise extreme caution when doing this kind of "shopping." Crooks are always looking for a way to separate us from our cash or belongings.

Glad you "escaped" this time. Craigslist and similar sites should be viewed with care... if the deal seems "too good to be true"... it probably is a scam.

Dave,

I was going to post the same thing you just wrote here but I didn't want to put a damper on the thread. I glad you did though 'cause it's a very real concern these days. By coincidence I just saw a 20 minute television special on this very issue. They said there have not only been many "strong-arm" robberies but also some murders. It seems "life" really is "cheap" as the old saying goes!

Hi Mark:

Are we "paranoid" or what???... LOL! It really is a threat and we should all exercise caution on a broad front. Thanks for reinforcing my concern.
