Oh! Sorry Nigel, I hadn't realized you had posted something on the XW-P1. Next time I will scroll down.

Cool synth though!

Wow...the only pro-style synth to come from Casio in 20 years & yet there's not too much enthusiasm over the upcoming XW-P1 here on this forum(despite the fact that it has gone viral on YouTube. keys dance

This is the most comprehensive video I've found;

I do like the fact that this synth is under $1,000.00. Let's face it, not too many people can afford a $1,000.00 or more synth. I know I can't.

Were Casio's original synths rather expensive? The ones from twenty years ago?

This synth is going fast and becoming quite popular. Sweetwater has sold out of it already and has to order more. I tired it a bit, but I would need more time. Also the store where I tried one. The sales reps were not too keen or helpful with keyboards, as they were with guitars.

I have indeed tried the XW-P1 - at my local music store a couple times. I'm very tempted to get it, as it has several features that I like that are missing from my year-old WK-7500, such as:

- Assignable controllers
- Realtime mix using sliders (hex mode)
- 8 levels on organ drawbars
- Real MIDI ports
- plus excellent synth sound creation possibilities and greater performance mode capability

Some things I still wish it had include Filter LFO for PCM and Hex mode sounds, simultaneous chorus and DSP (to get a truer organ emulation, among other things), more realistic rotary speaker and phaser effects, and better electric piano tones.

As a performance keyboard, I like the XW-P1 over the WK-7500, with the exception of fewer keys. I don't use the auto-accompaniment in a band setting, so none of the WK's arranger features are very useful in a live setting. But the XW-P1 with its real-time mixing and knob assignments - another story.

Now if ONLY Casio would allow the filter LFO on hex mode tones!

Thanks for that feedback on the XW-P1. I also play in a live band and don't need auto accompaniment so like you I am interested in a performance synth that can cover piano, electric piano, organ and virtual analog sounds. And the price of the XW-P1 is hard to beat.
