An agent I work with was talking about the different performers he uses at retirement centers, NH's, etc. He says he has three kinds of performers: 1. "Instrumentalists". Music Instrumentals only, no vocals, no chatting with the audience. 2. "Jukebox". Musician/Singers who play and sing without any further showmanship 3. The "Hams"...Musician/Singers/Schmoozer/Personality types that incorporate the audience into the act.
Which are you?
(I'm #3 on most jobs and #2 on the others)
Eddie
6 Years ago prior to ever playing a play for pay gig, I started out with number 1, strictly wall paper piano solo. Then got an arranger and still did the instrumental thing, over the last few years it's evolved to a bit a mix of 2 and 3, but mostly 3. and we all have some fun when I play New York, New York during baseball season here in Mass/Rhode Island and gets even more fun when there's someone with a Yankee hat and/or a Red Sox hat in the audience.

I hate agents never had a need for them vultures I had one good one and three not so good ones. The one good one pulled down a 20% agents fee, but she always booked me in high dollar locations so we both made lots of money. Unfortunately, breast cancer did her in at age 44. Nice lady and I really miss her. All the best, Gary
