I'd like to add a little pazazz to some of my gigs. What kind lights would be good to start with? I have about $300 to work with.

Thanks!

Paul IMHO unless your playing in a darkened environment lights make no sense.......on top of that its much more to carry to a gig..unless the client is paying for the extra light show package.
With that said this might help you....

For small jobs in dark places, I sometimes use two Color bank units by Chauvet-catalog # CH-158. they can be mounted on a light stand or Microphone stand and have a foot controller. I'm just using these to see my equipment and call a little attention to the location of the music. Occasionally, I'll use a couple of light bars and up to 8 PAR-58's if it's a big area and really dark.

For really large jobs (up to 16 players), I get my kid who runs our DJ and equipment rental operations to choose and install what's needed. Have no Idea what the mfg's or stock numbers are.

For Bose column users, here's a nifty little add-on for a couple of pars.

Run out and get a "micro Galaxian" for $99 - it's SO worth it!
Teeny, tiny footprint and huge coverage. There are demos on line - check it out!

When the room is not all dark and smokey, all you see are a million tiny dots running up and down the walls and ceilings ... So cool.
