All the time.
It all depends what you want to do with it.

Tony,

They're all pretty good, including the free ones. Audacity's latest version is extremely versatile, user friendly, and best of all, it's free. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

I will recommend Reaper

http://www.reaper.fm/

Before that I used Audacity. But Reaper supports ASIO on Windows. This is important for low latency recording and simultaneous play back.

Reaper costs 60$ for personal use. You can donwload the full version and try it out for a period of time. I like it a lot!

+1 on Reaper. I've been using it for about 4 yrs now and feel like it's the best bang for the buck out there. Warning - everything you'll probably ever need is in there BUT you're going to have a bit of a learning curve in front of you if you want to reap (no pun intended) the full benefits of this software.

I recommend very warmly

The free version of Podium is THE BEST FREEWARE DAW available at the moment! And trust me, I've tried them all.
