Hi Dave, thanks for the review. I hope you can find some time to record some music for us. Also I'm currious as to why you choose the Yamaha S950 over the Korg 600.

Dave, thanks for the review. The light weight makes it very desirable especially after using the g-70. Also being an old organ player who never played piano the 61 lightweight keys are no problem for me. I might have to dump the g-70.

Probably chose it over the PA600 because those aren't out here yet? LOL

I'm curious to hear whether the keybed is any different to the S910... Have they cut any MORE corners?

Same keybed as S910/S710.

Just easier on my aging wrists and fingers.

I liked the light action as well...you get very used to it, especially if you aren't coming to it from pianistic style, or just after using a weighted keybed.

Most of the synths and keyboards/organs I played, except my old Polymoog (which had semi-weighted keys), had a lightweight touch, and it works for most of the sounds, probably with the exception of acoustic piano, but, again, it's not hard for an experienced player to adjust.

The velocity sensitivity is pretty good on today's lightweight actions (I can speak for PSR)...generally you can press a key slow enough so that there is no sound, much like an acoustic piano, so the range is there...just needs to be approached differently.

Actually they did cut more 'corners' - I miss the sculpted 'corners' of the S910. The new look of the 950 is much more boxy and less jewel-like. Minor, but noticeable.

Black keyboards are all well and good until you play outside. Then they heat up like a backyard grill!
