I selected 5 styles from the Jazz genre and recored the on both the KMA and the PA600 using my Zoom H2 recorder. These were both recored from the headphone jack of both keyboards and then run through MP3Gain.

Tell me what you think. Both keyboards are set to out of the box factory settings with no adjustments made.

Are they recorded mono?
The sounds and waveforms say yes.
Could you record some stereo files? That would be probably better for the comparison purpose.

Should be stereo. When opened with Audacity it shows to be stereo.
These were recorded from the keyboards headphone jack.

Yes, they are stereo , but right and left are perfectly identical. So, they were recorded stereo, but somehow the input must've messed with the signal. It could be either an error when inserting the jack plug into the headphones output, but because it is the same with the both keyboard, probably it is a faulty jack connection or cable maybe... Or maybe the small jack did not went all the way into your H2 recorder...


But I think it is an interesting exercise this. Listening to what you did, indeed the differences are rather subtle and made me think. So, please do this in stereo if possible, so we really can compare...

To me, the KMA sounded "richer, and clearer" and had a more 'crisp, sharp' sound.
Seems like the KMA (or the recording setup) had more mid and high tone amplification. The 600 had more of a flat, muffled sound.

Were they both "out of the box" recordings with no other resources, and were the EQ settings the same? The 600 sounded a bit like a PSR-3000 default flat EQ setting. (Not very good)

Bottom line, based on what I heard through my 3.1 HK computer speakers, overall, the KMA sounded better.
There must be a way to setup the 600 to sound as good or better than the KMA.

Both keyboards were set back to "factory" out of the box settings for this comparison. Yes, the PA600 will sound outstanding in the right hands.

By the way, I sold the PA600 about an hour ago. I just don't have the desire to put the time into it. Must be getting old.

Deane I have sold many keyboards for almost the same reason. I have become selective about how much time I spend playing as compared to the time I spend trying to produce a just so-so sound. Like it’s time for the finer wine.

I sold; a MKA, Tyros 2 and Tyros 3 and two Psr series and a S900 – all for the same reason. Every one of those keyboards with time, could have done one great job.

A friend just passed away and his wife gave me his Kn7000 – I have forgotten how user-friendly they are; less trying to do?? -- and more time playing.
