Last horse I bet on deserved to be in a burger! mad

Pony walks into a bar, says something the bartender can't hear. Bartender says 'Speak up!'. Pony goes 'You'll have to excuse me... I'm a little hoarse!' rotf2

I wish I could recall what fast food outfit offered horse burgers in the U.S., but as I recall, the do-gooders put an end to them within a year. If I remember correctly, the horses were wild mustangs that were essentially eating their way out of house and home on the western plains, rangeland that couldn't support their burgeoning population. The press referred to them as "Trigger Burgers" and lots of other nasty names that turned people off.

I suspect ground horsemeat is not much different that ground venison, which when properly seasoned and cooked, is very tasty. In fact, I had ground venison sausage just a week ago at a friend's home here in Marathon Key, Florida. It was fantastic.

Cheers,

Gary cool

It was suggested that the meat in question came from slaughterhouses, either in the Netherlands or Spain.

We had deer chilli for supper tonight. I'd have to be pretty hungry to eat horse but anything is good if you deep fry it!

I remember when a few of us went out for steaks, and one guy likes his cooked VERY rare.

When he was served, the guy sitting next to him looked down at the bloody piece of meat, and said, "You know, a good veterinarian could have saved that poor thing."

Gary, they say you shouldn't watch sausages and hot dogs (franks)being made...but I do remember every Saturday night when I was a kid we usually had good ole wieners and baked brown beans...my uncle used to say, "That was a meal that would talk behind your back."

Makes me think of the "cowboys around the campfire" scene in Blazing Saddles.

I remember having dinner with a young lady a long time ago when a man at the next table was asked by the waiter, "How's your steak, Sir?" To which the diner replied, "I think it must have dropped dead in the shafts."

Around 1970 Sandy's was caught selling hamburgers using horse meat. Hardee's took over. Don't remember if it was the same company chaning names or just a different company.
