When I do a guitar solo, as I will next month ... the best setup for me is still to use my kb stand in front of me. I'll just put my guitar effects on the top tier - I don't need foot control. I'd rather be able to tweak the settings by hand anyway, so the all-in-one stand is STILL in the rig!

If it was a really scaled down, acoustic/type thing ... a simple mic stand in front of me would take up less space than a kb "X" plus a mic boom. Still ahead.

Is there any issue with attached boom stands being microphonic to your pounding on the keyboard? I would have thought that for some of the heavier handed of us (or those where the keyboard is so light it tends to bounce a bit), it might be possible that the vibration from our playing on the keybed might travel up the boom and into the mike.

Has anyone tried making a recording with the arranger sound turned off, and see if the mike is picking it up?

I have always used a separate mic stand, but if going this route, I might definitely try to make sure there is a layer of rubber between the keyboard stand and the boom stand. Or an isolated mic holder...

Sure makes me glad I'm able to use a headset mic. wink And, Diki is correct in assuming those sounds are transmitted through the keyboard stand attached mic. You don't have to be heavy handed - they still come through, at least in my experience.

Cheers,

Gary cool

Diki, it totally depends on the mic. I generally use Sennheiser 855, and a studio-type mic holder. SM58 is particularly bad about transmitting lows up the mic stand.

Donny

I use this mic holder for both tubing sizes. It tightens securely to the stand.

That mic holder only fits 30mm .... Donny wanted larger. The bracket he HAS fits 30mm.
