I am considering the BK-7 but there is one feature very important to me:

Can you change the indivudual instrumentation of a style?

For example: If a style has an acoustic piano in track or channel 3 and Strings in 4. Can I replace the Acoustic piano with an electric piano and the stings with a Pad?

Can I also change the type of Drum kit and type of bass. I know you can mute parts of the style but the manual is not clear on the ability of changing individual instruments.

Thanks,
Joe

In make up tools you can change any instrument. It's very easy.

Thanks, MIKIMIKI, but I didn't see "make up" tools in the manual. Where is it?

Joe the answer to all your questions is yes...As mentioned the make up tools can change in detail what you asked...the BK7m also adds "Cover" tools...this completely changes the whole style to a different feel (soundwise)...The Cover tools is missing on the BK5...but the "make up tools" is where Roland shines...

Thanks, Fran. I read someone's review and they said they couldn't do this. So good to hear it is supported. Trying to decide what to add next. Considering a lot of different boards/modules:

BK-7, Bk-5, Korg Micro Arranger or even a Korg Kronos. If it wasn't so expensive I'd go for the Roland Integra-7 module.

Evaluating what would be a good addition to my Tyros 3/MotiXF6 combo.

I love the BK7m. You can't go wrong if you need a good module.

While the Makeup Tools are nowhere as easy to use on the BK-7m as they are on the E/G series touchscreen arrangers, it is STILL, by FAR, the easiest to use header editor for styles of any arranger.

Not only can you adjust sound, volume, pan, effects etc., but you can adjust the dynamics (add or subtract from velocity values) so that multi-sample sounds sit right no matter what velocity the part originally was. This is WAY more important than many people think.

Then you can do this on a per-drum basis inside the chosen drum kit. So it's a snap to change out a thick snare for a piccolo one, or adjust the dynamics of a shaker part, for instance. Plus you can edit the EQ per sound (and per drum sound INSIDE the kit) from here too.

This Makeup Tools feature is what keeps me on Roland's. I like to tweak, I like to use converted and legacy styles. The Makeup Tools allows me to edit these with minimal effort (compared to the rest, anyway!).

Are you looking to do a keyboard or module?

Looks like you have enough Yamaha sounds, I think Roland is closer to a Yamaha sound than Korg, I found that the Roland has great styles and great sounds except for some that come across a little thin hidden in allot of fxs, ( just an opinion ) Korg is a more raw sounding machine, more of a love/hate.

Give me a call or email and we can discuss more if you like
