Well I received my KMA yesterday but only had a few minutes to make sure it works. It has no sound coming through the speakers at all. Have not tried to hook up to my sound system - have to try that tonight. It was late and my wife was sleepy so couldn't really get into the Global mode to look at settings to be sure Local was on and Speakers were on. Powering off and on is working - it all lights up and the screen shows the startup screen and then the Style mode first screen. When I turn on and off the unit I could hear the speakers slightly pop when the signal is switched so the amplification is working (heard this through headphones too).

I needed to get into the manual this morning at work to find the Local and Speaker settings but am puzzled now. In the manual it does say that this is automatically on for both settings whenever the unit is powered on so it seems it is not a setting which can be written and stay off.

As a recap, this unit was bought from an Internet Dealer as a "Restok" item - it seemed to be a floor model without the box and packing but had the CD, music stand, adapter with plug and a card. The listing said nothing whether it was tested or not.

My question - could either the Local mode and Speaker mode be written as set to off and stay off when the unit is turned on?

Is it possible it may have been used by someone wanting to control it from an external controller and set the default MIDI setups and it always turnes on in Local Off Mode???

I won't be able to check this mode until I get home tonight.

If these settings are at their proper settings, would it be a good idea to try to load the OS and Objects over the existing so as to reset to factory settings? Not sure what's on the CD but know I can get the original OS and Objects from KorgPA.com.

Any ideas would be appreciated. If none of this workes, it goes back - wanted it for vacation next week though. Get what you paid for when trying to buy for less.

Thanks all.

KMA Speakers:....

GLOBAL menu...
This parameter turns the internal speakers on or off.

Note: Speakers are always turned on again each time you turn the instrument on again.

Exactly what I mean and same for the Local Mode - they both have this statement - so I'm puzzled why I'm getting nothing. I still want to try to hook up to my system tonight and see what happens.

Still also trying to figure the buttons to go into demo mode. It said to press Style and Song together but my wife tolde me there was two song modes - second from left and fourth from left before Program. the second from the left also said play. If I press either button with Style, I still hear nothing from demos.

My question still goes out as to whether re-loding OS and Styles may help? I really don't want to go through the hastle to return if it's an easy fix. The unit is solid with no damage or any sign of wear at all.

Try a factory reset....if that doesn't work you might have a defective unit. can you hear anything thru headphones?

Only thing I hear is the pop when turning unit on and off.

Factory reset looks like the re-load of the OS and Objects as per my question, correct? I read through the manual and found nothing of a "Factory Reset" button sequence like on other boards.

Thanks for your replies Donnie.

Well tried reloading OS and Resourses with no results. All lights turn on, OS is operational.

So I called the dealer and they agreed to take it back and sell me a brand new one for same price. It goes back next week after I return from my trip.

Apparently this was a refurbed straight from Korg but it sure didn't seem that way. The packaging was very poor with no original packing materials. It did have a new Power Supply but the stand and CD were in an opened package.

This morning I received a note from someone who had same issue and he said to open it up and check for loose connectors. I thought of that, but I don't want to open it up. It's going back.

Shucks, wanted this to play on my trip.

Thanks Donnie and all.
